Driving Lessons

Learner

Learner

New learners will be broken in gently, with the first few lessons focusing on the basic controls of the vehicle, and moving on through the syllabus manoeuvres once you are comfortable with what you have achieved so far. You set your own pace, you will not be rushed along or have your time wasted, just be helped along by proven coaching techniques, gently correcting faults and ensuring you develop into a confident and competent driver.

To begin learning to drive (on public roads), you must be in possession of a provisional drivers license and be 17 years of age. For more info on starting the learning process, please visit the DSA’s Learning to Drive section.

Pass Plus

Pass Plus

Statistics prove that the risk of having an accident is highest during the first years of driving after passing the driving test. This is why the Government launched the Pass Plus programme. Backed by the DSA and major motor insurance companies, it is designed to help new drivers gain more experience and become better equipped for the demands of modern driving.

The course needs to be taken within twelve months of passing your driving test to qualify for the insurance benefits.

The Pass Plus course is a six-hour module, which will include motorway, bad weather, city and rural driving. After completion you will be able to obtain a discount from many insurance companies, subject to your personal circumstances.

This course has proved popular because the saving on insurance is often far greater than the cost of the course. If you are already a learner with us, talk to your Tim about adding Pass Plus to the end of your course, or if you have recently passed and would like to organise Pass Plus instruction, call or email Tim!

ORDIT

As an O.R.D.I.T registered instructor, Tim can provide training for those wishing to enter the driving instructor profession. In order to commence training towards becoming an ADI, you must;

  • Hold a full UK or European Union (EU/European Economic Area (EEA) unrestricted car driving licence
  • Have held this licence for at least four of the last six years, prior to being entered on the register
  • NOT have been disqualified from driving in the four years prior to being entered on the register
  • Be a “fit and proper” person. All convictions, including motoring, are taken into consideration and an enhanced level criminal records check is carried out when you are assessed for suitability.

As long as you meet those criteria, you can become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). The training is split into three parts, a driving theory and knowledge module, a practical driving ability module, and an instructional ability module (develops your teaching skills).

Full details on the process can be found on the direct.gov website.

Fleet

Are you, or your company, in need of Fleet registered training? Designed for those for whom driving is at the centre of their industry, Fleet driver training is designed to not only make regular company drivers safer and more aware, but also cut operating costs by teaching more fuel efficient driving skills.

Not only will you benefit from having better, safer company drivers on the road, and a higher rate of fuel efficiency, but you will also be protecting your company from legal culpability in the event of an accident where you, as an employer, can be seen to have not upheld your ‘Duty of Care’ and legal compliance.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers are required – ‘to carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees’ and that ‘includes any driving activity on the road’ – see Health and Safety Executive

Some businesses have opted out of offering the traditional company car to employees believing that moving to a cash-for-car, personal contract purchase scheme or letting the employee use their own car when driving for work removes their health and safety responsibilities. It doesn’t.

A firm faced a £9 million damages bill after one of its drivers ran over a cyclist while using a mobile phone. The cyclist was left paralysed from the neck down and on a life support machine. The £9 million payout is thought to be the highest awarded to a British citizen by an English court.

By having your drivers complete Fleet training, you are shielding yourself from such litigation as you can have been seen to have taken reasonable preventative steps in ensuring your drivers are safe.
